It was Patrol Day at the station and it was part of their community outreach on tonight’s all-new episode of “S.W.A.T.”
The whole unit had to participate in Patrol Day. They were going to be taking emergency calls out on the street and some of them had even got to stay behind to talk some troubled kids. The theory was that these troubled kids could one day become dangerous and so reaching out to them while there was still time had given the unit the chance to talk these kids about what it really like out in the real world. They were getting into trouble believing it made them cool and everyone would want to be friends with them afterward, but the truth is those friends would ditch them at the first opportunity they got because some of them will have to grow up and start to think about their future.
No one should say they see prison in their future! These kids should instead start talking about getting a good grade and what they want to be when they grow up because all of that will be not handed to them. These kids needed to learn that everything worthwhile required hard work and so reaching out to these youths in trouble was turned out to be part of Cortez’s initiatives. She wanted to officers out in the communities and getting to know the people they must protect as well as serve. It was supposed to build up trust and that meant she was really counting on her unit pulling their weight with this though she knew why Hondo wasn’t going to be leading his team. He had taken some off to take of a personal matter.
Hondo’s father was sick. Pop had a condition that would only get worse over time and so his daughter wanted Pop to come live with her in Los Angeles. Hondo’s sister Brianna had said that she had everything handled and unfortunately Pop had surprised them all because he said he didn’t want to move. The man was prideful and didn’t believe the doctors when they said he couldn’t keep living by himself. Pop just told his kids that’s fine because his ex-was going to come back for him and regret walking out. He said that it was the Harrelson charm and that no woman could resist it. Pop was so sure that he was fine that he tried to convince his children to just leave him. He said he didn’t need them hanging around watching everything he ate and so he wanted them to return to their normal lives because he didn’t want their help.
Only neither of them could them walk away. Brianna was ready to take care of her father and she had a room already set up for him, so she tried to talk her father into accepting his condition and when he wouldn’t she then turned to Hondo. Hondo had broken the mold when he became a police officer as well as a member of S.W.A.T. and his father wasn’t like that in the least. He had led protests and was still friends with Black Panther members. Pop was everything that his son wasn’t and all the same he still loved his children in his own way. He had broken up with Hondo’s mother for Brianna’s mother and while he was waiting for his past loves to come begging for him back. He was a player that had let down his children one way or another and still, he loved them.
Hondo was trying to deal with that complicated relationship when he began getting calls from his team. Chris had gone out on patrol with Mumford because Mumford had asked for it. He had a team that he respected, but he recently realized that it was a little too white and a little too male. Mumford was hoping to create a more diverse team and so he was looking into recruiting. Chris thought he was trying to recruit her when he asked to be partnered with her and she had told Hondo about it because she wanted to gloat. Chris found it amusing that Mumford thought he could take her away from her team and she couldn’t wait for him to make his offer because she wanted to turn him down so bad.
Hondo however had cautioned her. Chris shouldn’t risk burning any bridges if she could help it and so she had tried to do as he said. She went out on patrol with Mumford and Mumford had been working up to asking her to join his team when they got a call about an active shooter. The shooter had killed an innocent bystander and shot his therapist. The therapist identified the shooter as Zack Calnick and he had been seeing her because of court-mandated therapy. She also told the officers that Zack mentioned he needed another gun. It seems the one he had wasn’t high-powered enough and so S.W.A.T was notified that there was an active shooter on a spree. He was unstable, had a history of violence as well as abuse, and he was unfortunately upgrading his weapons.
The team later learned that Zack had gone on to buy bump stocks once he left his therapist’s office and that he had killed the man that sold him the bump stocks as well as the semi-automatics. So it became imperative to find Zack and Chris let that get into her head. She and Mumford had found Zack and she went after him on her own. Chris had waited for backup and so she got into a nasty fight with Zack that ended with him beating the living daylights out of her. She had needed to be treated afterwards and she noticed that Mumford didn’t seem like he wanted to recruit her anymore. Mumford had informed everyone that she had gone half-cocked and he continued to make little comments that basically said she couldn’t hack the job.
Chris had also gotten a call from Hondo asking if she was alright and she told him that she was. It’s just Mumford was no longer interested, and she talked about that with Hondo. Hondo had told Chris that didn’t matter what Mumford thought because they both knew she was good at her job and so Chris made sure to prove that. Zack announced to a hot dog vendor that he was going to kill everyone on the bus and Chris found that bus. She knew the route Zack was going to choose because she found his car and so from there they were able to slow down the bus just long enough to set off flash bangs. That allowed them to evacuate the bus safely and Chris had been the one to take down Zack.
It had been so impressive that Mumford later asking her to join his team. Chris had politely decline of course and she went a step further because she suggested if Mumford was serious about adding a woman to his team then their was someone going through SWAT training that she was thought was really promising. Mumford said he’d think about it and Chris got to walk away from the encounter with her pride intact. She hadn’t liked how everyone looked at her after she got beaten up and she felt better knowing that she had proven herself even if her own team never doubted her, so Chris had actually had a good day. Its not like she lost her radio like Tan or had to make teenage cheerleader to get that radio back. That had just been Tan and he was glad that Street was the only other person to know about because he had sworn Street to secrecy.
As for Hondo, he was able to convince his father to move to LA. Pop’s children were in LA and they wanted to the chance to see him as much as possible because they all knew he was dying. So that decision had been hard on Pop and, if Hondo hadn’t been there, odds were he would never have agreed to the move!
THE END!
