Music Premiere: Kibby Introduces New Single Subway Station

New York City-based rock outfit Kibby releases the single, “Subway Station,” a track from Kibby’s upcoming fourth studio album, entitled Not Not Cool Anymore.

Kibby explains, “I don’t know if it can be made clear what this song is much about. It is a little bratty in nature. It’s really about running around NYC and being in over your head. It’s kind of angry and kind of apathetic. Catchy, crunchy, rocker.”

Kibby was born out of an idea in late 2018 in Queens, NY. The concept for Kibby had one clear goal… to release one album a year for 10 years straight. In early 2019 work began on the first album, Seance Rock. The album was recorded mostly in Iowa City, IA, and then finished back in Queens.

After Séance Rock’s release, Kibby began working on the follow-up album, Blabracadabra, which was written and recorded in a small railroad-style apartment in Queens. Teaming up with indie label Forged Artifacts, in 2021, Kibby released a short run of cassette tapes.

Later in 2021, Kibby started work on the third album, Ta Da, recorded at The Buddy Project studio in Astoria, Queens. Ta Da revealed a more polished sound than its predecessors. Ta Da dropped in the fall of 2022 via Forged Artifacts, completing the self-named ‘Magic Trilogy.’

In 2022, Kibby relocated to Manhattan and began work on Not Not Cool Anymore, which displays a heavier, dirtier sound. The album features distorted guitars and live drums, giving it a raw quality.

“Subway Station” opens on grungy guitars riding visceral percussion that imbues the tune with a lo-fi grimy feel. The pushing rhythm propels the song forward with grand dynamism as Kibby’s high, scratchy vocals infuse the lyrics with angsty flavors, projecting an array of variable emotions.

Surging on gritty tones rubbing up against Kibby’s fillet-like voice, “Subway Station” delivers an uncooked, potent lo-fi experience.
